We consider tunisian crochet to be the common "grey" space between knit and crochet. We are using our hooks to weave together a community dedicated to supporting moms.
That's the question you will keep hearing when you begin tunisian crochet.
With our goal being to support as many moms as possible, tunisian crochet became our go to method for quickly working up shrugs. Tunisian crochet is super simple to learn, in our opinion is the easiest stitch method to learn and is faster then knitting. Combining multiple strands of yarn and going up many hook sizes creates a fabric with lots of drape. With so many yarn choices to work with, each shrug becomes truly your own creation.
Our volunteers have all become experts at combining yarns and working on huge hooks helping us meet the demands of our charity.
Our friend Ben Burchall of The Tunisian Crochet Channel on YouTube is working hard to help raise awareness for our charity while building a strong community of tunisian crocheters. Ben came up with our Shrug Snugs, a fun, unique way for makers to pitch in. Shrug Snugs are simple and quick to make. They not only help keep a shrug "snugged" closed, but become a beautiful accent! Please check out and Subscribe to Ben's channel. He is a master at tunisian crochet and a wonderful human being!
We'd love to get you started with tunisian crochet. A link to purchase one of our kits is below. Once you master the technique you might want to purchase one of our hand painted tunisian crochet kits which will include a size N ChiaoGoo tunisian hook and our tunisian shrug pattern.
Hand painted kits are available in our shop and we share lots of tips and hints on our channel. We also encourage you to join our monthly Zoom meetings on the 1st Thursday of each month from 12:30-2:30. Ask questions, get to know us and become part of our community. We would LOVE to have you!

A Shrug Snug is simply a crocheted spiral that starts with a chain measuring approximately 12” long. You can tunisian crochet a Shrug Snug following Ben's tutorial or use regular crochet to make your chain and work 4 double crochet stitches in each chain stitch.
Use 2 strands of your fingering weight leftovers and an I hook, a single strand of worsted weight yarn and a J hook or any combination that will give you a tight spiral. By simply inserting the Shrug Snug through one side of a shrug then back out through the other side and giving a little tug, the space in between the spirals keeps the shrug closed!
Print our PDF below on card stock and include your name and hometown on the back of the cards. Matching your Shrug Snugs to the shrugs made by other volunteers puts even more love into our donations.
