Hugs through Shrugs is a service project dedicated to creating a community of support for moms with children battling pediatric cancer.
Volunteers from the knit and crochet community make and donate our Shrug Hugs, wrapping the moms receiving them in love - sending good wishes their way.
Our collaborations with Arms Wide Open and Momcology allow us to ship Shrug Hugs nationwide to the home addresses of the moms we serve.
Our collaboration with The Izzy Foundation in Providence, Rhode Island, allows us to send Shrug Hugs to every mom with a child on Hasbro Children's Hospital pediatric oncology floor. In New Jersey, we currently support the Children's Hospital at St. Peter's University Hospital in New Brunswick as well as the Ronald McDonald House and The Children's Cancer Institute at Joseph Sanzari Children's Hospital in Hackensack.
By tapping into the talent and kindness of the knit and crochet community, we are letting some very worried moms know we are thinking about them and reminding them that they matter, their children matter - and their journeys are not invisible.
Unfortunately, we can not reach every mom - but with your help we will do our best to reach as many as we can:
One Shrug at a time,
one Hug at a time,
one Mom at a time.
Please watch and Subscribe to our youtube channel for charity news and yarn updates. If you’d like to learn tunisian crochet, we’d love to show you how!
Hugs through Shrugs is registered with the federal government and recognized in the State of New Jersey as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
