Hugs through Shrugs is a charity project dedicated to creating a community of support for moms with children battling pediatric cancer.
Volunteers from the knit and crochet community make and donate the shrugs, wrapping the moms receiving them in love - sending good wishes their way.
Several children‘s hospitals have embraced our mission and keep our shrugs on hand to give to moms whose children are being admitted. We are honored to be partnering with Momcology and Hayden's House, non-profit organizations supporting families affected by pediatric cancer through peer support groups and retreats.
We are happy to be supporting moms with children being treated at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) through our support of their ‘Ronald McDonald House as well as the RMD House in Providence which houses families with children being treated at Hasbro Children’s Hospital.
Our newest collaboration is with The Izzy Foundation who distribute our Shrug Hugs to every mom with a child on Hasbro’s pediatric oncology floor.
By tapping into the talent of the knit and crochet community, the passion of hospital staff, RMD Houses and other charities with similar missions, we are letting some very worried moms know we are thinking about them and reminding them that they matter, their children matter - and their journeys are not invisible.
Unfortunately, we can not reach every mom - but with your help we will do our best to reach as many as we can:
One hug at a time,
one shrug at a time,
one mom at a time.
Hugs through Shrugs is registered with the federal government and recognized in the State of New Jersey as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
